Stephen Breyer - 01/26/2007
This morning on the way to the office, listening to a France Inter radio program, I heard an interview with Supreme Court Justice, Stephen Breyer. I was so surprized to hear him speak French so fluently. I have to say that I was very impressed. Sure, he had a funny accent, but he spoke with excellent grammar and a good vocabulary. Justice Stephen Breyer was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Clinton. Since the French loved Clinton, they obviously love Justice Breyer. I was interested in the interview, not just because Justice Breyer spoke so well in French but also because I hadn't heard many of our Supreme Court Justice's interviewed in English, let alone in French! He was in Paris to promote the French translation of a new book that he wrote, called Active Liberty. I was actually impressed how Justice Breyer respected the fact that, as a judge, he does not have the right to express his political opinion in public.
