The House of 1000 Clocks! - 01/26/2007
Don and Susie Newby have been missionaries with Greater Europe Mission in Germany for over 25 years. They are amazing people, very talented musicians and singers. We have had the joy of knowing them for many years. Our kids have also been very close friends with their kids, Eric and Shawn. Don and Susie found out that the house where they have lived in Germany for 16 years was being sold and needed to move. Yesterday a couple other colleagues and I drove up to Königsfeld, Germany, about 2 hours away from Kandern to help them in their move. We actually brought the EuroTeam truck also for the move. Königsfeld (which means King's Field auf Deutsch) is a beautiful town. It is the present location of the German Bible Institute where Don and Susie teach music. I learned yesterday that Albert Schweitzer was born in Kaysersberg, France (in Alsace) but he at the end of his life, he lived until his death in Königsfeld. So as we were driving through Königsfeld, I saw the Albert Schweitzer Haus, which is apparently the house were he lived and died. Don and Susie Newby, since they are in the states for HMA, were looking for a place to store their belongings for a while. They know the founder of the The House of 1000 Clocks in Triberg, Germany, not far from Königsfeld, Thomas Weisser, who is allowing them to store their belongings in an appartment above The House of 1000 Clocks. The House of 1000 Clocks is famous world-wide for its huge assortment of Coucou Clocks. I heard that The House of 1000 Clocks has just planted another store in Branson, Missouri. So once again, yesterday I have a very "moving experience," if you know what I mean. Because we were so few people doing this big move, it took us all day and a lot of exerted energy to finish our act of kindness! All in a day's work, in the life of a missionary!
