Abbé Pierre - 01/26/2007

Abbé Pierre died on January 22, 2007. Today is his funeral in Paris. Pope Benedict XVI pays homage to him. Abbé Pierre was a very compassionate man with high Christian values. Among many other accomplishments, Abbé Pierre founded Emmaüs International, a charity ministry which helps the poor and homeless. Kandee and I became familiar with this ministry early on in our own ministry. Emmaüs International establishes outlets where the homeless can be trained for a job and actually work. At these outlets there are usually second-hand stores. So Kandee and I have become regular customers, especially Kandee. In fact, Kandee visits Emmaüs (second-hand store) so often that the workers there recognize her when she comes in and rush to help her find what she's looking for this time. And Kandee often brings other American with her to Emmaüs. The workers at Emmaüs love to see Kandee come through their doors, because they know it means more business. We always feel good buying used articles there because 1) we know that we are helping a good cause and 2) we know that the used items will be in good condition and a good price. Pray that God send another man like Abbé Pierre. He was a one of a kind. I have heard him speak on the French news or even occasionally on a talk show. He always promoted Christian values. Like I remember that he spoke against abortion, same-sex marriage, etc. And of course on the positive side, he spoke out for the poor and homeless. Hundreds and thousands of people have been helped because of Abbé Pierre's vision and compassion. Empty your Attics!
