Waking up to the first snow of winter - 01/24/2007
Every winter there is that momentous morning when one wakes up to the very first snow. I still have wonderful childhood memories of this annual happening. There is just something special about looking out the window in the morning finding out that it had snowed all night. This morning was that day! January 24th is actually late for the first winter snow in this region. It had been a warm winter. Some trees were even beginning to blossom. Merritt and Remy bundled up for the cold weather, Merritt leaving for school and Remy leaving for his work-day at the Freie Evangelische Gemeinde. As part of Remy's one year "social internship," he works one day a week helping with the church grounds and facilities. Maybe I haven't explained this aspect of Remy's work. I have spoken quite a bit about Remy's work at the ConneXion Jugend Cafe. In order for Remy, as an American adult, to live and work in Germany, he needs to have a work permit. Germany gives work permits for people who desiring to do one year internships. Remy is interested in social work, as a way to show people God's Love, in tangible ways. These interns must work a certain amount of hours per week. This year of social work also requires attendance and participation in a certain amount of seminars throughout the year. Remy's Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr is under the auspices of the Freie Evangelische Gemeinde of Kandern(F.e.G.) and focused mainly upon the ConneXion Jugend Cafe, a Cafe Manager. He has his official work permit now and last night, at the F.e.G.'s mid-week service, Annatji Nolde, director of the ConneXion ministry, presented the ministry to the church, the vision of the ministry, introduced all the board members (Kandee and I are on the planning board), and all the staff members. The elders of the F.e.G. had a special prayer of dedication for Remy, as well as for Annatji. It really was a beautiful service. The German church members have really gotten behind Remy, and Kandee and I also feel very supported by our German brothers and sisters. Photos of winter Winter Flickr
