Sanctity of Human Life Month
Human Life is sacred. We should not kill any life form, merely for the sake of killing, but there is something special about human life. The Bible says that God created humanity "in His image." God has asked humans to be a good steward of all of the earth's resources, but human life is the most precious resource. The Bible says, Thou shalt not kill. Interestingly, in most cultures, if not all, killing is against the law. The Hippocratic Oath was written by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, in 4th century B.C. Traditionally, people studying medicine would take the Hippocratic Oath upon graduating. This oath, in short, is a promise to protect human life and to in no wise encourage, cause or permit death to come to a doctors patients. Issues that seem to contradict the Hippocratic Oath: All forms of abortion, all forms of euthanasia Other related issues: Stem Cell Research, Human Cloning, the use of human fetal tissue, human genetic engineering, war and capital punishment. Other related issues that may be a part of the solution: Sexual Abstinence programs, Adoption programs, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, Churches, Christians reaching out with compassion to the poor, the handicapped and the elderly.
