Michael Brecker is no longer with us. - 01/15/2007
Michael Brecker died this weekend. He was considered by many as the most influentual tenor saxophone player of his generation, winning 11 Grammy Awards. As well as having his own jazz band, he recorded with great artists, such as Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Simon & Garfunkel, and with more modern people such as Frank Zappa, Laura Nyro, and Funkadelic. I love music. To play it, to sing it, and to listen to it! I love a variety of music. I do believe that God created music. The angels sang in heaven long before God created mankind. They played instruments in heaven long before the family descendents of Adam and Eve, name Jubal, began playing the lyre and pipe. I believe that God puts music in our hearts and it is expressed (or should be expressed) in many ways. God also puts the talent of music in our minds and in our fingers. Music can and should play an important role in our lives. Like David, before he became King, soothed the stress of King Saul by playing beautiful music on his harp, music has the potential of encouraging us, even healing hurting hearts. In the Bible, music was also a way of reminding people of God's faithfulness, building our trust in God. Music was also a form of worship of God. All music should be for God's glory. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Jazz speaks for life. The Blues tell the story of life's difficulties, and if you think for a moment, you will realize that they take the hardest realities of life and put them into music, only to come out with some new hope or sense of triumph. This is triumphant music." Music has always played a central role in our ministry. Music for worship, also music for attracting people to God. We've had all kinds of concerts. Music is very much a part of our children's lives. They are very much into music. You will hear all kind of music in our home! We love music in our home!
