What would happen if everybody cared? - 01/11/2007
I was listening to a song by Nickelback today, while doing my daily physical workout. The words really hit me. The lyrics to the song are below. What if everybody cared? That is a powerful idea. A pessimistic person might reply, "But people DON'T care!" There are a lot of people in this world who do care. I think that there a people who don't care. But I think that there are a huge majority of people who DO care. I believe that there are many people care, but don't know how to show that they care. In their hearts, they care about the suffering in this world. They care about the hurting people all around them. They care about the injustice in our big cities. They care about the poverty that devastates most countries, some countries more than others. They care about the sickness and deseases ravaging many lands. They care about people who are discriminated against. They care about crime and they may even care for some criminals and the sad events in their lives that have brought them to this. They care about the war killing innocent people. They care about the thousands who die when natural disasters strike. They care about people who lose loved ones, children who die suddenly, elderly parents who die. Lots of people really do care, but not everybody knows how to show that they care. Some care but don't know that they can make a difference. When I got back from my lunch time workout, I went online and found the Nickelback song and even view a video clip of "If Everybody Cared." It was good. It was about real people who did care, who realized that they could make a difference. It was quite inspiring. People do care! People can make a difference! God cares. Because He cares, we can care and make a difference. All through the Bible we see a God sees and cares. One of the stories that comes to my mind is the story of Abraham and Sarah and the servant girl, Hagar. When Sarah did not become immediately pregnant, Abraham, impatient, decided to go ahead of God and to try to have the "promised" with Hagar. Then when Sarah got upset and physical abused Hagar, Hagar ran away, but God heard her cries and met her in the desert, told her to name the child, Ishmael - meaning "God hears," and to return to her master. (Genesis 16:9-12) Then later when Isaac is born and she gets chased away again with baby Ishmael, the scriptures again say, God heard little Ishmael crying and God took care for them in the desert, providing water for them. It also says that God blessed them. (Genesis 21:14-21) God hears and cares! God cares. When the Israelites were slaves in Egypt, scriptures say also that God heard their cries and delivered them . People care and they can make a difference. It doesn't mean that it will always be easy. Let's not give up on the human race. Let's not give up hope. Nickelback - If Everybody cared "If Everyone Cared"
From underneath the trees, we watch the sky Confusing stars for satellites I never dreamed that you'd be mine But here we are, we're here tonight
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
[Chorus:] If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died
And I'm singing
Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
And in the air the fireflies Our only light in paradise We'll show the world they were wrong And teach them all to sing along
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive (I'm alive)
[Chorus x2]
And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be
If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died When nobody died...
[Chorus]
We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day when nobody died
