Missions and the Arts! - 01/03/2007
I married an artist. Kandee is a talented artist who has painted with many kinds of mediums, oil, water colors, charcoal, etc. Sometime I will post photos of her paintings. When she was in college, she even painted portraits. There are a lot of Christian artists who use their artistic talents as a means to reach more people with the gospel. Kandee and I have several artist friends who use art as a means to touch more people. 2 Corinthians 9:19 and 22 "Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible ... I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some." (the emphasis in mine) Art (not only painting, but all the visual arts, all the performing arts, writing, photography, graphic arts, multi-media, etc.), like so many other arenas, provides a platform for the gospel, a means for touching certain people whom we might never be able to touch otherwise. Our friends, Rick and Mary Beth Holladay, are both artists. They are missionaries with Campus Crusade for Christ International and have started an arts ministry called Crescendo Arts. Recently, God provided them a huge building which used to be a brick factory! Read the story at this link. They now live in an appartment in this brick factory and will use part of the factory to art workshops and art expositions. They also use it for swing dancing! Rick and Mary Beth Holladay are a good example of how the arts is a great arena for spreading the good news. Below are some links for learning more about this exciting opportunity for sharing the good news with more people.
